Arrrrr!!

Playing hooky from work is really fun!!

I spent the day gathering items for the outfit I will wear to Jam Cruise's pirate-themed costume partay!! The end result of this flurry of creativity is probably the best picture ever taken of me.

As you can see, I am going as The Pirate Joke.

John is going as a music pirate. :) Special thanks to Emily for helping me with the iron-ons! Mwah!

I declare Christmas Eve the most boring day ever.

It's 6:30pm. I've been awake for probably 5 hours today. I backed up my hard drive. I bought some food and ate it. If I don't find something to do, I expect to spend the rest of the evening disinfecting my sex toys. The End.

Boring Christmas Eve, Part 2.

As I prepared my 10% bleach solution, I discovered my new favorite band.

They're called The Wet Spots. They're a jazzy, loungy, comedy duo that does clever songs about kinky sex. They're pretty much exactly my style.

YAY!

That was a most excellent girls' night out. Thanks, ladies!

For the uninformed (actually, I think everyone who reads this blog was THERE, but I'll summarize anyway)... my birthday celebration consisted of an outing to Silverlake to see Margaret Cho's The Sensuous Woman, a burlesque and comedy showcase featuring fun, tasteful stripping and lots of wonderful comedy.

Quote of the night:

My puss goes straight for the jugular
Your puss gets uglier and uglier!

And one I thought of:

My puss is sweet like Belgian chocolate
Your puss so desperate your cousin defrocked it!

Thanks again for such a fun night out! Looking forward to seeing the pics, Em!

Fun because it's bad...

Three words: Friday night karaoke. Songs of choice: Fat-Bottomed Girls by Queen and En Vogue's Never Gonna Get It. Another guy at the bar did a rousing version of Neil Diamond's Coming to America, which prompted me to attempt to persuade him to do Summer Night's from Grease with me. I failed. Next time, guy-in-Buddy-Holly-glasses. Next time.

Sunday night, I did a holiday concert at a local convalescent home -- carols, hymns, really traditional stuff. It's great material for singing. It's fun to sing and not difficult at all. But here's what I wasn't expecting. The crowd (which consisted of about 10 octogenarians in wheelchairs) was absolutely wild and raucous. We gave them bells to ring during "Jingle Bells"... but actually, they rang the bells throughout the -entire- concert. Even during Silent Night and our instrumental version of Bach's Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring. We were loud and discordant and I'm sure Felix Mendelssohn's skeleton was covering his ears in horror! But it didn't matter. We were having fun!

It's frumpy sweater season!

Damn, it's cold! It was 60 degrees inside my apartment when I got back from the airport. 60 degrees! Inside!!

It's even cold in Hawaii right now. We never got a chance to go to the beach because of gusty winds and high surf. Wind + sand = no. But it was great having time at home to relax with John. I've been playing Lemmings for SNES. Call me vintage, retro, nostalgic, or just plain behind-the-times. :)

The next time I see John, we'll be on our way to Jam Cruise! They published their schedule of activities... in addition to listening to great live music and snorkeling in the Carribean, I will also be participating in Rock Star Karaoke (karaoke with a live band) and a Guitar Hero competition. YES!

My birthday is coming up. I'll be turning 26. It's the last year of my mid-20's! *wipes tear from eye*

It's also the Christmas season. Bah-humbug! Last year, I didn't buy presents for anybody. This year, it'll be an effort to suspend my own anti-consumer elitism, but I'll be buying presents for 2 gift exchange partners (one from last year... oops... and one from this year) and John (I'm getting him the new Tom Waits rarities collection). But I have a secret. I really don't understand Christmas. I'm faking it!
