I miss dancing!

After a yearlong hiatus, I have returned to the dance floor! One night of swing at my old standard, then salsa two days later. I really miss it! At Lindy Groove, there was this great mix of new blood and old familiars, men being flirtatious and interested, but knowing how -not- to cross the line into desperate and creepy. There's a different kind of energy there now; maybe they can feel my wedding diamond scratching their hand and they know I'm not there for pickups.

During one rotation of the salsa lesson, I was matched with this beautiful young man: lithe and muscular like a classically-trained dancer and flirtatious like an experienced player. We met again later on the dance floor, and as he skillfully led me through a variety of really impressive dance moves, these are some of the awesome lines he used:

Listen. Swing is energetic and fun, but salsa is sexy. Don't forget to keep it sexy.

I respect your marriage, but now we're dancing salsa. Let me show you what sexy is.

Next time, put on a pair of high heels and a circle skirt, and you'll look so good your husband won't let you out of the house.

I got hit on by a salsa-dancing Smoove B! I'm so flattered! Never before has anyone said "I respect your marriage" so sexily. As you can see, social dance is the kind of hobby which, as a married woman, is better done in moderation. But damn, it sure is fun.

I AM A WINNER!

YAY! I've just been informed that I am the winner of The Wet Spots Lyric Challenge! The object of the game was to write a verse for song "Public Service Announcement":

As you can see, this song is about things you shouldn't put in your butt. Some of you who remember my early songwriting days know that I have some experience writing on this subject, and (if I say so myself) a bit of a gift. Behold, the small piece of bawdy brilliance which has scored me a kick-ass "Sex Nerds Know How To Do It" T-shirt, and the honor of having my verse performed by The Wet Spots themselves at their upcoming NYC show:

never put a cell phone in your rear, dear
the reception in there isn't very clear

never put a cell phone in your end, friend
your text messages will be much, much harder to send

the vibrations might be kind of fun
but how are you going to call 911?

so never, never, never, never, never, never, never put a cell phone in your bum!

I'm an ass-poetry genius!

Sleepy post.

Today I'm blogging from my pajamas, the morning after a long night out with old friends. Jeremy, Cing, Alice, and I began the day with a trip to the Getty Center, where we roamed around the gardens, looked at art, enjoyed the cool ocean breeze, listened to a groovy live band, and told stories. I miss them! Several times during the day we commented that we'd rather walk around together than go to our high school reunion, but, alas, we'd already paid for our $75 tickets.

Turns out, our 10-year reunion was pretty fun! I carpooled with Jeremy, meaning we got to share music recommendations, and he has really good taste. Thanks Jeremy! The reunion was held in a small banquet room in a very nice hotel in Long Beach. The music was loud and bad, but the food was good and the company was better. Most everyone still looks young and sexy, and I saw a few people I hadn't seen in a really long time! All in all, I'm glad I went.

In other news, I cut my hair! I lost 10 inches, so now my hair is just a bit longer than shoulder length. It's also layered, though it took 2 separate stylists to achieve the look I wanted. (Seriously, what kind of stylist hears "layers" and cuts sections which are mere millimeters different in length? He also cut it shorter than I wanted, but hey, it'll grow back.) Also, I donated the longer strands to charity!

In even bigger news, I'M NOT GOING TO HAWAII ANYMORE. I recently returned from my last Hawaii work trip ever. We had a little wine and cheesecake party, as well as a ceremonial Last Pushing of The Button (yes, my job has been reduced to mere button-pushing). I know I always angsted about going to Hawaii all the time, but the truth is, it was sort of a second home to me. I'll miss it!

Dream interpretation time!

I had an awesome dream last night, one so full of Jungian possibilities that I had to share it here.

First, Emily was in my dream! Yay!

We were in Europe. It was nighttime. There was... some kind of unknown force chasing us; the important part is that throughout the dream, we were trying to escape. At first, we were outside in the night, riding our escape vehicle of choice, a bull. Wooo! At some point, I reached down to the ground to pick up some objects while riding. One of them was a cat. I am awesome.

Later, we dispensed with the bull and were running on foot, through a house with many doors. The doors didn't make sense -- they didn't lead to where we expected them to. So we just ran straight ahead, through whatever door we saw. Eventually, we were in a stall in a public restroom, and there were no more doors.

So I flushed us.

The pipes were very weirdly shaped -- thin and angular -- and I saw Emily and me in weird geometric shapes as we squeezed through the pipes.

When we emerged, we were in California! It was daytime. I had lost my purse, one that John gave me. Before I could go through the annoying banality of replacing my credit cards, I woke up.

What does it mean? What were we trying to escape from? What do the doors symbolize? And the pipes?

I'm gonna play fortune-teller in the comments section. I am going to post a few interpretations, as well as explanations for the symbols from an online dream dictionary. Anyone else want to play?
