John. I love him.

Days John spent in Los Angeles: 10.

Shows attended: 2 (Gabriela Montero for classical improvisational piano, Andrew Bird for modern violin-based rock. Did you know he played violin for Squirrel Nut Zippers? I didn't.)

Museums visited: 2 (The Huntington, where the roses are in bloom. Also, the Getty Villa, which I loved.)

CDs purchased: too many! I think some degree of self-control is required if you're going to visit Amoeba music on a regular basis. We bought: Yma Sumac (Peruvian singer with a 4.5 octave range!!!), Gram Parsons, Judy Collins, The Soviettes (for William), sacred classics and cantatas by Vivaldi, choral stuff by Ralph Vaughn Williams, piano works by Eric Satie, Gabriela Montera's latest, two older Andrew Bird albums where he still sounds like Squirrel Nut Zippers, and Kronos Quartet doing Gorecki. I need to organize my CDs. They're getting out of control.

Varieties of ethnic food consumed: 4 (Filipino, Chinese dumplings, Morroccan, and Indian... twice!)

Dinners with friends: 3 (The Knolls, the Swains, and the Blackrianos. Love you guys!)

Seriously, though, that's a lot of stuff to cram into 10 days! And now he's GONE!! *cries*

I will be in Hawaii from October 2 - 13. See you guys when I get back!

Fun with Craigslist

So, I was browsing the personal ads on craigslist... (I may not be in the mood to buy, but I LOVE window-shopping!), and I stumbled across this in "men seeking women":

Tall, skinny, geeky, dark haired girl next door? - 48

...You are usually casual, trendy in low cut blue jeans and street wear, bonus points if you wear & own converse all stars, have very long or very short hair, maintain a healthy sense of humor, are spiritual, appreciate the beauty of simplicity...

He goes on to say how he's looking for a younger woman with a passion for arts and music. I don't know who this guy is, but he SO has a crush on me.

Now, I happen to believe that defining a specific set of preferences is the road to relationship disappointment, because 1) the perfect partner you envision probably doesn't exist, 2) people are too complex to be fitted into "types," and 3) it can cause you to pass up someone really good, someone with other wonderful qualities you never even thought of!

However, I apparently am this guy's "type." Wait a minute. When did *I* become a type?? Ugh!

Oh well. At least he didn't include "Asian" as one of his criteria. :P

I did it!! I cut my hair!!

I just got back from a wonderful impromptu visit to Hawaii last week (it was our anniversary and tickets were really cheap!) I feel so... inspired, free-spirited and adventurous today. So I finally decided to get my hair cut! This is a big deal. I get my hair cut once every two years, but very rarely do I get professional work done. Typically I just get a simple chop-job, but this year I wanted something different.

So I went to a well-reputed, trendy, modern salon in Old Town Pasadena and asked for long sideswept bangs and layers. She lopped off about 6 inches too... by my hair is still damn long!! She spent a while styling it too... unfortunately, I didn't see anybody today, so no one got to witness my new hair in its finest form! I'm sure it won't look like this tomorrow! Hehe. Don't worry, I took pictures. YAY!

If your name ends in "issa", thanks for your great advice! It wasn't as scary as I thought it would be. :P

This is my old and pretty, but boring hair.

This is my new sexy hair! Rawwwwr!
